While I have a deep affection for my little island, it is disheartening to observe the dwindling presence of wildlife and natural habitats. It strikes me as surreal when I see how a country like Japan has resorted to deploying robotic wolves to safeguard rural communities from the adverse impacts of climate change on local species.
Japanese researchers initiated testing of these robotic prototypes to counter the detrimental incursion of wild boars into farmlands. In response, a company known as Wolf Kamuy has expanded the sale of these sentinel devices, complete with intimidating fangs, lifelike fur, flashing red LED “eyes,” and a head capable of shaking side-to-side while emitting a spine-chilling 90-decibel howl. Yet, it is not solely wild boars that pose a threat to rural Japanese communities. Recent reports indicate that Wolf Kamuy is now marketing many of its artificial wolves as a means to deter bears.
Wouldn’t it be truly remarkable if Maltese scientists could devise a robotic solution to protect against the encroachment of jellyfish from foreign waters during the summer months?
However, the real issue here is not the bears, nor the jellyfish; it’s the profound impact of climate change and rampant deforestation. Our little island, like many other regions, faces this daunting challenge. Humanity cannot place its faith solely in an army of robot wolves to mitigate the threats faced by bears, and numerous other species, as they grapple with the consequences of climate change. It is important to acknowledge that these creatures are not at fault; they are simply becoming increasingly desperate to secure their sources of food.
Therefore, our best course of action lies in continuing to prioritize comprehensive climate solutions such as conservation, the adoption of renewable energy, and the implementation of sustainable urban planning. These measures offer a more sustainable and long-term remedy, far superior to the admittedly impressive Super Monster Wolf.

When Icons Become Algorithms: My Take on the Midjourney Lawsuit
When I first typed a prompt into Midjourney, it felt like conjuring half-remembered dreams — thrilling, but uneasy. Now, with a $30 million lawsuit from Disney and Universal over alleged AI plagiarism, that unease has exploded into a full-blown reckoning. As an artist, I stand between admiration for these tools and the urgent need for ethical reform. This moment could either suffocate or strengthen the future of AI art.
